6 Drinking Apps for Today's Booze Hounds

By Tiara McNeely

People like drinking and people like iPhones, so it's only natural that developers have created a multitude of apps for those who enjoy a good adult beverage. If you're a fan of alcohol and good times than check out these 6 drinking apps and throw back a few tonight.

If you're sick of playing the same drinking games over and over again, than Drinking 101 is the app for you! Organized by name, category, and drunk level, Drinking 101 has 170 games for partiers who are looking for a different way to down their booze. The app can randomly select a game for indecisive drinkers and save favorite games for future reference. 0.99 is all it takes to score this fun-filled app sure to help even the most seasoned of frat boys get wasted.

If you happen to be a drinker AND a lesbian, then this app is for you! 50 Ultimate Lesbian Cocktails has 25 drink recipes for Fems and 25 recipes for Butch Gals complete with "visually stunning" photos and commentary from lesbian mixologist Angie Jackson. $1.99 will get you this fun app great for the ultimate girls' night out.

If you're a beer or wine aficionado who likes to record tasting impressions, then you may want to consider purchasing the Beer or Wine Pad apps. At $3.99, these handy apps allows users to rate beer and wine, record their thoughts, take pictures of wine and beer labels, save favorites, and email thoughts to fellow fans. Beer Pad/Wine Pad is a great way to keep track of your favorite, and least favorite, brands of beer and wine.

If whiskey is your drink of choice than be sure to check out iWhiskey. Developed by respected alcohol critic, F. Paul Pacult (how do I get that job?!), iWhiskey reviews hundreds of brands of the world's whiskey. 600 to be exact, complete with vivid screenshots of each brand's bottle. iWhiskey can be yours for $10.99. A bit costly? Yes. But where else can you find a mobile whiskey catalog?

Wine enthusiasts will love Hello Vino, a free app that helps users select the perfect wine for special occasions, gifts, holidays, and food pairings. The app also provides ratings and reviews for specific wines, a handy tool when eating out or visiting the wine section of the local liquor store. Users can even share information via Facebook or Twitter.

It's difficult, if not impossible, to keep track of a city's happy hour specials. Bars go in and out of business, promotions constantly change. What's a cash-strapped drinker to do? For starters, they can download the iPhone's FREE Happy Houred app. Happy Houred allows bar hoppers to search for local happy specials by day, time, the type of bar, and kind of drink as well as add new discoveries. Drinkers can also upload photos and write reviews for other users. How cool is that?
