Cheap Sim Deals

By Paul Turner

A sim only deal is a mobile phone contract without the mobile phone. You get what you need to connect to the phone network - the sim card itself. You then either buy pay as you go phone but use the sim only deal to get better value, get a second hand phone or use one of your old phones. They are MUCH better value than taking out a new phone contract.

Sim only deals seem to be better value - how come?

This is because the networks don't have to pay for the handsets meaning the savings they make can be passed onto you! This means the contracts often cost less per month and you can more minutes and more texts.

How long is the contract for a sim only deal?

As opposed to a normal mobile phone contract, which is usually 12, 18 or 24 months, a sim only contract is usually just 30 days, so to leave you only need to give the network 30 days notice.

Sim Card Only Offers

The mobile phone market in the UK is as buoyant as ever despite the global economic downturn, and a majority of people who have a mobile phone will have received it free as part of a contract for which they pay each month and to which they are committed for a fixed term, usually around 18 months, but with both 12 month and 24 month contracts available.

These contracts are usually 12, 18 or 24 months and are there to make sure the mobile phone networks keep your monthly rental long enough to pay for the handset. If you are out of your current contract and are still happy with your phone, you should defiantly look at the sim only deals on offer.

A SIM only deal allows you to continue to use your existing handset and keep your existing mobile number by simply sending you the small SIM card that is required to connect to a mobile network and that is used by every mobile phone in the world. A SIM card is universally compatible with any mobile handset, though you will probably need to get your handset unlocked if it is currently linked to a particular network and your new SIM card is manufactured and operated by a different one.

Why get yourself a new sim only deal

Mainly because of cost. Sim only deals are much cheaper than traditional mobile phone contracts due to the cost of the handset as explained above. Not only can the line rental be cheaper you often get additional benefits.

Your sim only contract will also offer better value for money when it comes to inclusive minutes and texts. At the time of writing Vodafone has a particularly good deal which includes unlimited text messages. Another huge benefit is that you aren't tied to a long contract. Most sim only deals come with a mere 30 days contract.
