By Faye Herl

Deciding whether or not an item is worth the price is always a challenge. Will you actually use the item or will it just turn into another paperweight? One item like this is whether to buy the Podium for iPhone for the hefty price of $68. Just how many paperweights can you buy with that? Yet, being able to fully utilized your iPhone or iPod makes all the difference. It doesn't do you a lot of good stretching out your pocket.

For those reeling from this crippled economy have to decide whether it is worth it to pay such a premium should you decide to buy the Podium for iPhone. What exactly does this price get you? Is the benefit worth the cost?

1. Weight and balance are the key to the Podium for iPhone. The stand can position the iPhone or iPod at various angles to make it easier to check emails or tune into your favorite vid. With an added device called the Electro-Optix Gooseneck Magnifier, the screen can easily be viewed.

2. Nice curves and a robust design enhance the stand. With a device the size of an iPhone , balance is extremely important. It doesn't matter how cool an accessory is if it winds up on the floor with your iPhone in its grasp because of a lousy design. With this functional yet streamlined Podium, you can access your favorite vid at a glance with the use of an Electro-Optix Gooseneck Magnifier all at the comfort of your desk.

3. The companion accessories should allow for better utilization. In other words, if the Podium for iPhone winds up on the floor every time you try to use it, frustration will definitely be high and the stand would just turn into a glorified cup holder.

4. The mount with its ball and joint design pivoting mechanism allows for easier adjustment for a variety of apps. The stand will not need to be moved. This is an added advantage if you don't have a lot of space.

3 out of 5 stars is the rating for this fine piece of equipment only because of the price. It does an excellent job for the iPhone or iPod. But the price has to be brought in line before there can be serious consideration.
