Sick of Paying Double for your iPhone Ringtones?

By Thom Yarbrough

Most people are mistakenly under the impression that they need to make do with the ringtones that come with their cool iPhone. They think it's either make do with what you have, or pay for new ringtones for you the iPhone once you're bored of the same tones dragging out of your iPhone. Clearly, that's all wrong, because any song of your choice can be converted into an iPhone compatible mode and that can be done right within your iTunes set alone. And what's even better? You don't have to pay a dime for any of it.

After lots of exploring, you now probably know that the iPhone ringtones have the .M4R extension. Now all you need to do is change the name of the file extension from AAC to .M4R. Yup! That's it!

Once you rename the format, the ringtone will appear in your iTunes under the ringtones section. Connect your iPhone to iTunes, sync it and then that's it! You have a whole new set of ringtones that you can create just for your iPhone.

This simple method doesn't involve any complicated steps and any person with the basic knowledge of how to work around with their iTunes can work on it and create some mind blowing ringtones too!

This method is compatible with Windows as well as Mac PCs and once you get the hang of changing the extensions of the files, you will be able to easily create and store all the ringtones that you want.

To delete these ringtones, just go to the ringtones folder under the iTunes music directory and delete them from there.

GarageBand, a software application makes the work a lot easier for Mac users as they can use this to convert ringtones in a jiffy!
