Avoiding The Dangers Of Your Kids And Their Cell Phones

By Raine Forrester

Are you aware of the fact that nearly 50% of all children under the age of 18 in the United States currently have their own mobile phone?

This number incidentally just keeps on rising, and its little wonder that we never spend enough time with our kids. They are always otherwise engaged.

When our kids have mobile phones, do we really know who they are in contact with all the time? Do we know who they are sending texts to or who they are sending picture messages to? The answer to that is probably not!

This is not to say that all children who own a mobile phone are irresponsible, far from it! The majority of children with mobile phones are responsible enough to know what is the right or wrong thing to do with their mobile phones.

But we must still let them know that certain actions have consequences, and we must always teach our children the proper way to use a mobile phone.

It is not just a case of being in contact with the wrong sort of person that causes problems on a mobile phone. What about if your child is constantly on the phone, accessing the internet through their phone or downloading things from their phone? All this can have serious consequences when the final phone bill arrives!

Just a few ground rules could help. Firstly make sure that you know who your kids are in contact with on their mobile phones. Secondly be aware of what type of pictures are being sent or received, and possibly make them aware of the best time of day to be making calls if that is relevant.

Out of 6000 teenage road accident deaths last year, nearly one in two were caused by the use of mobile phones. This is a frightening statistic! Make sure that if your child is old enough to operate a motor vehicle, and that they are aware of these statistics.

These are just a few of the things to teach our kids about mobile phones. The more they are aware the safer they will be.
