An Introduction to the TomTom 125

By Peter Elliot

In line with the direction taken by its fellow rivals in the GPS communications industry, TomTom, one of the industry's bigwigs, has this time, launched the all new TomTom 125 GPS navigator.

The pristine TomTom 125 owns a 3.5-inch color touchscreen LCD display which is not only sharp, but also sports a most simple and compact design. Its small size and integrated modes for both pedestrians and bicycles make this TomTom navigator the perfect device for portability considering it gives users the option of using it as a handheld navigation device on foot or mounted on their bicycles.

Yet, one must note that this GPS device only packs basic navigation features such as preloaded maps of U.S.A. and Puerto Rico only, a Favourites or Recent Destination List, and a Home icon which automatically routes home from your current location among others such as a couple of routing options, such as the quickest or shortest route or to use or avoid toll roads and automatic route recalculations and multi-destination trips.

In line with the standard features incorporated into most GPS navigators these days, this new TomTom navigator features five million points of interest (POI) that include ATMs, gas stations, lodging and even places of attraction and users will have the option of viewing maps in either 2D or 3D mode.

Another quirk that might irk users would be this navigator's small 3.5-inch screen size and its a little-too-cramped onscreen keyboard. Perhaps the TomTom's few saving graces would be its ability to offer folks predictive text, giving users possible results once they start entering letters, a choice between a QWERTY and ABC format keyboard, mini-USB port and speakers that are conveniently located at the back of the device. Folks looking to buy this new TomTom GPS navigator will be pleased with the package in which they will find an EasyPort vehicle mount, a USB cable, a car charger, and reference material.

What this TomTom GPS navigator lacks in its features such as the highly popular text-to-speech function present in almost every available navigator sold today, it makes up for with its ability to provide its users with accurate and reliable tracking and clear, audible directions.

Folks who love to have the option of customizing their GPS navigator settings will definitely love the Preferences menu incorporated in the TomTom product. They will not only be able to change map colors, they will also be able to adjust the position of the status bar on the map screen, choose the night mode and lots more. Other features incorporated into this TomTom product include the "Help Me!" safety feature and "Where Am I?" function that provides users their current location, longitude and latitude.

The TomTom 125 navigator is a most affordable device with a simple to use user interface. It is perfect basic GPS navigator for first time users looking for their very first GPS device with basic navigation functions and a easy to navigate user interface.
