Samsung CLP-500 - A Laser Printer That Makes Photos

By Stan Retner

Standard package box of Samsung CLP-500 includes the printer, toner cartridges, an image transfer belt, a drum, a power cable, a CD with drivers and utilities and a user manual.

The internal layout of the printing mechanism is original and unusual. To set the printer ready, you'd have to unpack and install the drum, the transfer belt and the toner cartridges.

Toner cartridges are the same size and dimensions compared with the video.

Toner cartridges are amid from the foreground ancillary of the printer, and acknowledgment to the fool-proof architecture, so you cannot put the incorrect toner in an incorrect slot.

The CLP-500 has USB and LPT ports amid on an apparent place. Above them is the bung for alternative LAN interface, still higher is the reserved spot for Wi-Fi interface. On the management board, there is an aperture for an alternative DIMM-memory addendum module.

It's quite unusual to discover a duplex unit in the package box of a color printer of this price range. However, it's worth mentioning that this printer feature a rather high speed in double-sided documents output.

The Samsung engineers have taken care of detailed and intuitive control panel to manage the printer. In most cases it does save time on control and management operations.

Every time it's accepting anytime harder to animadversion on argument press superior of today's printers. The acumen is there annihilation larboard to achieve: even a 4x zoom of a page printed in a lot of acclimated approach -- the 600 dpi -- leaves no agnosticism the superior is perfect.

The quality difference in 1200 dpi is obvious, but you can hardly call it critical. When printing texts, the 600 dpi resolution mode is just enough.

This is a color laser printer, and it, theoretically, can produce photographs, too. Nonetheless, don't expect of CLP-500 what you would expect of an inkjet photo printer, those would be the printers for different purposes. However, the Samsung CLP-500 is likely the first color laser printer to produce what can conditionally be called a color photo on matte paper.

Another affair this printer deserves advertence is how consistent the toner coverage of media. For instance, there are no bright flares in places where black toner is heavily applied.

Interestingly, in case of the plain office paper, toner from printer cartridge is printed in a medium to complex surface paper (in comparison with any other media) only a plus. This is likely a matter of the smallest particles of toner. However, fixing the quality toner deserves all the accolades.
