It might be time to consider prepaid cell phones. The offer many services for the money. Here are some good and bad things for your consideration.

Good things

You do not have to make any commitments. Prepaid phones are pay as you go. If you no longer need or want the service, you can quit whenever you wish. Some contract cell phone providers may ask you sign up for a year or more.

You do not need to qualify for a prepaid cell phone. A credit check is not necessary. You will not pay a deposit. Prepaid mobile phones are available to anyone. This gives many people, that might not be able to, a chance to have a cell phone.

Suppose you are out in the middle of nowhere. It is dark and cold. Your car breaks down. You pull over and face the darkness. If you have a cell phone, you can call for help. Maybe you are involved in a traffic accident. Someone may need medical attention. You can call for assistance with your cell phone. In most instances, 911 will not use any of your cell phone minutes. You can have peace of mind, knowing that you or a loved one will be safe.

Do you use your phone every day? Do you talk on it every now and then? Maybe you want to keep one in your car for emergencies. If you do not frequently use a cell phone, a prepaid may be a good option. You will not have to pay a fee each month.

Maybe you use a mobile phone frequently. However, you may not spend a great deal of time on the phone. A prepaid phone may be a better investment for you. You can also send and receive text messages. Some prepaid providers may not charge you to receive text messages. You pay for the ones that you send. Text messages are cheaper than talking, in many cases.

You can buy a prepaid phone for your child. You will not have to worry about large phone bills. You control all of the cost. If they talk too long, they will run out of time. This will give them a way to communicate without spending too much money.

At times, prepaid providers will have special deals on their service. You might be able to pay for minutes and get the phone free.

Disadvantages

Prepaid mobile phones may not have the selection of phones, that the competition has. You may be limited to a few phone models. As long as they are acceptable, there should be no problem.

Sometimes monthly contract cell phones are substituted for land line phones. This might be too expensive with a prepaid phone.

Talk time costs more with prepaid mobile phones. You may need to use your cell phone for extended periods. This could be very expensive with a prepaid service.

Depending on the provider, you may have a larger initial cost than the contract phones.

You need to keep track of your talk time closely. You do not want to run out when you really need it.

There are many reasons to consider prepaid cell phones. If you do not need a mobile phone for everyday use, it can be a good choice.
